The latest update as of November 28, 2022

Update time at Northern Thunder

It's been an incredibly busy year personally, with a long trip to Eastern Canada and the Maritime provinces using up all of June and a good chunk of July. Then it was "the summer that seemed to never end" at home in Spirit Bay. Nearly four months with almost no rain and long sunny days. That came to a crashing end when the first winter storms hit in late October, just about the time I started a part-time job that's using up several days each week. With December and the Christmas season rapidly approaching, that "part-time" gig is getting busier and leaving me without much "free" time to get things done on the website.

However, today and tomorrow I will be moving all of this year's race reports - 15 in all, to the Features section of the website. Many of the reports are still lacking details to go with the photos and that project will be continuing throughout the winter. The races covered in 2022 started with the PRO Nitro Spring Training test sessions at Phoenix, continuing through three NHRA national events, six Funny Car Chaos races, two NHRA Heritage Series races, two Bandimere Raceway events, plus a Nitro Chaos race. Making all this possible was the "Have Camera, Will Travel" lensman, BIG Bob Snyder, aided by the Colorado "Dime Store Shutterbug" talents of Dale Fackler. Filling in for Snyder at the season finale of the NHRA Heritage Series (the California Hot Rod Reunion), was fellow Vancouver Island resident, Dyan Lover. Many thanks to all of them.

We're already looking ahead to next season, and for the first time in quite a while (the 2017 MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton), I will be attending a race - or possibly two - next year. I've got the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals (Seattle) in late July pencilled in on the calendar, and a trip to my old home track, Mission Raceway Park is a possibility. Sadly, there isn't an NHRA regional or divisional event on the MRP schedule next year. In addition, I'm hoping that Bob Snyder and Dale Fackler will be able to continue providing me with their great images from the Funny Car Chaos, NHRA national and regional races, and Nostalgia events. And of course, we'll be providing stories and updates on this page throughout the year. As I say so often: Stay Tuned!
