The latest update as of November 17, 2019 - 11:00 AM

Going into the first round of eliminations at today's season-ending NHRA Auto Club Finals, all four professional championships are still up for grabs. We've made a chart with the updated points standings in each class, and will be updating them throughout eliminations. Check back after each round for our synopsis and the latest totals.

TOP FUEL

Four drivers are still in the hunt, led by defending Mello Yello champion Steve Torrence, closely pursued by former (2017) champ Brittany Force, Doug Kalitta, and the real wild card in the field, Billy Torrence. The title chase could end in the first round if the three challengers fail to win, but if Steve O goes out early, the championship could go down to the later rounds. Stay tuned!

FUNNY CAR

Another class with four drivers in the hunt going into the first round, featuring the (could be) titanic battle between Robert Hight and John Force. The other two contenders faced easier opponents as Jack Beckman lined up against John Hale in the Worsham Family rent-a-flopper, while Matt Hagan was paired with the hit-and-miss Jim Head Racing car wheeled by Jonnie Lindberg. If Hight loses to Force, and Beckman and Hagan lose in the opening stanza, the championship goes to Hight. It's likely there will be at least one contender advancing to give Hight a battle in the later rounds.

PRO STOCK

The pre-race drama centered around the "grudge" match between points leader Erica Enders and (already eliminated) countdown entrant Greg Anderson in what degenerated into a war of words between the opposing teams (Elite Motorsports and KB Racing). Somewhat lost in the rhetoric were the three contenders trailing Enders in the points war. Jeg Coughlin Jr. was the only one with a serious chance, but Jason Line (Anderson's teammate) and Bo Butner still had a mathematical chance to overtake Enders for the title.

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE

Barring a first round metldown by points leader Andrew Hines the championship was virtually decided going into Pomona. One of the trailing contenders (Eddie Krawiec) was eliminated from contention at the conclusion of qualifying but Matt Smith and Jerry Savoie still were in with a slim chance, as long as Hines lost early and they advanced to the final round.
