2019 Season opener of FUNNY CAR CHAOS at North Star Dragway (Denton, TX)

Funny Car Chaos 2019 Season Opener

Here's the shots from Saturday evening's eliminations, starting with round one of the A field (top 8 qualifiers).

---

(LEFT) In the near lane it's Mark Billington" in his blown alky "Sons of Thunder" against (far lane) Ken Singleton in the "High Risk" car. Singleton took the winlight

(RIGHT) Quickly laying waste to a "legend" (at least the car is) was Nick Poloson in the "Bucket List" (near lane) as he put down a career-best 3.79 to easily cover the "Blue Max" tribute car of Ronny Young which trailed with a solid, but losing, 4.12 time

---

(LEFT) Suffering the ignominy of the dreaded pushback by the crew, the broken "Motivation" Mustang of newcomer to the series, Chuck Loftin was unable to offer any competition to his first round opponent Kebin Kinsley. The "Motivation" moniker and paint scheme is a tribute to a true Texas Funny Car legend, Billy Meyer

(RIGHT) Here's the scene as (near lane) Kebin Kinsley in the Farris brothers "War Wagon" late-model Mustang leaves the line enroute to a less than perfect 6.26 pass

---

(LEFT) Taking a slight lead at the green, Nancy Matter (near lane) in the "Guardian for Heroes", was quickly dispatched by the very powerful "American Outlaw" (far lane) of Allen Middendorf by a 5.17 to 6.58 verdict to close out the first round of the A field

(RIGHT) Starting to smoke the tires right off the line - and tossing the burst panel in the hood - Brandon Lewis (near lane) didn't get too far under power in his "Attitude Adjuster" Camaro, shutting off shortly after this picture was taken, allowing Clay Cunningham (far lane) to take the match with a so-so 5.15 clocking in his "Still Crazy" entry. Of note is that Lewis's car is an ex-John Hale ride, still being tuned by Guy Tipton

Here's a closer look at Lewis's predicament in a three-shot sequence. Click on the individual frames to see a larger format version

---

(LEFT)(near lane) Jim Gifford driving Bill Dee's "Nor'Easter" out of New England, laid down the only 3-second pass of the first round, a 3.98 to easily cover the slowing 6.04 effort of Jeff Cameron in the Texas-based "Magnolia Missile"
