Returning to cyberspace after a "short" break, we're back in action just in time to attend the first major event of the season at the newly refurbished Mission Raceway Park, the Lordco BC Nationals. It's also the first full-featured Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event on the NHRA Division Six schedule for 2009. With full fields in both Top Alcohol categories, a fresh (repaved to the eighth-mile surface) and excellent weather forecast for the weekend, it should be an event to remember... for all the right reasons.

My compatriot over at SpeedZone Magazine has posted the odds on the entrants, with an update to the dragster section and the full funny car list as late as this morning. It will be interesting to see how Dean's picks fare, especially compared to the rankings that I will post for them tomorrow morning. We agree on most issues, but I've seen a divergence in our thoughts on a few of the competitors. Stay tuned to see how I handicap the players.

Time to sign off for now and get back to work before the foreman notices that I've let the dock grind to a halt while I attempt to post this update. Next news later today.
