After seeing this dragster make a licensing attempt, and watching him on and off the throttle three times, swerving left and right in ever-increasing arcs until he took out the half-track timing blocks, then nearly rolling the car, track manager Wally Duperon was overhead saying "I'm gonna have a talk with that boy!" Smart money says he did NOT get his license endorsed on that pass. On the right side, we've got former Super Stock Hemi racer Peter Wille from Victoria in Pro E.T.
While Peter Wille does his best to smoke out his wife - and I've got to wonder just what she is looking at so intently, two erstwhile photogs are lying down in the shade comparing shots. To protect the guilty, we'll omit their names.
Two views of Roy Moznik's awesome Pro Street '69 El Camino. He qualified with a 6.75 at nearly 210 mph. Pretty impressive for a not terribly aerodynamic hybrid car/truck vehicle. Of course, 762 cubes of big-block power with lotsa nitrous helps get it there.
Yes, that's Glen Braid's old Acadian Canso, now owned and driven by Steve Horn. It's still got a small-block Chevy for motivation, but it's turboed now, rather than blown as in the old days.
Heads Up folks, we're entering the "restricted" area on the other side of the fence. Hey buddy, where's your wristband! Actually it's Dean Murdoch showing me how many great photos he's taken today.
That's it for Friday's test 'n tune day at the Canadian National Open. Good night from Mission Raceway.
