The latest update as of January 27, 1998

Results are in from the second round of the Castrol New Year Series held at Willowbank Raceway in Brisbane, Australia on Saturday, January 24th. Despite heat, humidity, and air conditions ranging from 2000 to 3000 ft. corrected altitude, the expected happened as Graeme Cowin (Top Fuel) and Gary Phillips (Top Alcohol) dominated their respective categories. As a result, both racers maintained the lead in the their respective Australian Championship Series standings. For qualifying and eliminations results, go to the Results Menu.

The first race on the 1998 NHRA National Event calendar is set to start on Thursday, January 29th, with final eliminations scheduled for Sunday, February 1st. After a 12-week layoff, everyone from the racers to the fans are ready to begin another season of drag racing. We hope to have the results posted on the Results Menu no later than Monday, February 2nd. And don't forget, the 1st round of Top Fuel will be broadcast live from Pomona on The Nashville Network beginning at 11:30 am. (PST) on Sunday. Don't miss it!

Also occurring this weekend, on Saturday, January 31st will be the 4th round of The Australian Top Fuel Championship Series at Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne. With less than a week to prepare (and repair) after the January 24th meeting, the racers will be working hard to maintain the pace of competition. Several cars that didn't appear at Brisbane, namely Rachelle Splatt and Romeo Capitanio should boost the field, and might hold an advantage over the field at their home track. Results will be posted on the Results Menu when they become available. This may be in early March as the Calder Park web site does not provide results, and we have to wait until they arrive in the DRAGSTER Australia magazine.
